This is a video response to Dan Brown's (pogobat) video in response to MrChiCity3's video about YouTube is Dying.

I vlog about the competition that the YouTube community has created for itself and taking away from the whole "community" or social aspect of YouTube. I also mention how people are not feeling comfortable in this competitive environment and feel like they have no chance at success, and address this as an issue that affects me as a vlogger.

If I did not make it clear in my video, I do not think that YouTube should be as competitive as an environment as it has created. YouTube should be used to help socialize and share opinions rather than trying to please everyone with basically what they want to hear in order to get a large viewing audience.

  • I have to say I know abit more about vloging now thank's for that!

But I try not to worry to must about youtube dying or not dying because if I can upload a video for free then it's still broadcast yourself to me I'm trying to have fun now at the sometime trying to get out there so it's a mid thing for me.

  • What i was concerned about was the fact that YouTube might be straying away from the community building which I think is quite achievable. So what I was trying to say was that we as youtubers aren't stressing the correct things, and are leaning away from making meaningful friendships because people are using YouTube as a way to gain internet fame. And fame is cool and all, but difficult here on YouTube.

  • Cool ass video hommie for real......keep doin ur thing...

  • The beauty of youtube is that it can be whatever you want it to be. If you want to compete you can, if you're here to find friends you can and if you're here to watch other people you can... There are endless possibilities.

  • cont.

Conversely, I find that some people still post videos and vlog for the sincere purpose of self-expression and are outside of the metaphorical shark tank.

Loved the video and will subscribe.

  • Agreed with everything that you said. I'm glad that I've finally seen a level-headed viewpoint to this whole discussion.

I believe that Youtube is still what it fundamentally is, a popular video sharing site. And as such, quite a number of people have risen to internet fame due to their own unique personalities and the number of people that watch Youtube. This rise in internet celebrities, I believe, has caused most to want the same kind of fame acquired by other users.

  • I agree with everything you said, Im doing my videos, because I want to prove I can commit to something, and something to look back on if I keep it up, and I do stuff like, telling people to comment and subscribe, but I do it mainly for my friends, because they watch them and dont say anything.

  • Right. What I want to say is that people expect too much for the little amount of work that they do. In order to get a big response, you need to put out a lot in the first place. Eventually then, your videos will catch on, and you'll find yourself with a decent following. But first, you need to work hard, but why not have fun doing it at the same time? So keep posting videos, and have a good time!

  • Your comments are really astute. I decided to make a video as like a hobby I could do with my friend, as escape to the massively boring life which I have and also to try and do something with my too-big imagination. But I've kinda been sapped into that staring at my screen too long syndrome you describe- EVEN THOUGH i've ONLY DONE 2 VIDS! And I'm annoyed that Just starting out making video's i've got into that mindset- And I'm Trying to Stop. I think I might post some videos from a while ago...

  • Youtube is a massive competition. i don't think it was meant to be that, but it is. I'm a little guy at the bottom scraping to be alive :) I find It REALLY awkward to say "rate sub and comment!" at the end, mabey because I have like 5 subscibers but also I just think It's like knocking on peoples doors and pressurising people into getting your double glazing..If they like your doubleglazing they'll get it...if they like your videos they'll sub.. if you get what i mean??

  • Well said. YouTube is too commercialized and competitive these days. Still, fame often is able to come to those who aren't aiming to achieve it, because it shows through their personalities and performances which may appeal to people more. Anyway, keep it up!
