From the Salzburg Summer Festival 2006
Aug 16 performance of Mozart's 'La clemenza di Tito' at Felsenreitschuler.

Dorothea Röschmann sings Vitellia's Act II rondo, Ecco il punto/ non piu di fiori. Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducting the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
Andreas Wieser (Basset-horn soloist)

There's a lot of huffing and puffing going on because she's putting on a new dress and applying more make up while singing this murderous thing... not to mention having to sprint down a flight of stair at the start of it. As if this isn't already one of the most fearsome thing for a lyric soprano to sing!

If you enjoy this, buy the M22 DVD of this show from Salzburg in 2003 (TDK Label). Frau Röschmann was in even better voice then. In 2006 she was also singing the Countess Almaviva in 'Le nozze di Figaro' during the same Festival... quite a work load.

  • la voix est magnifique mais je ne suis pas d'accord avec les innombrables ralentis........

  • Oh, I'm afraid the ralentis are rather necessary in this production. Harnoncourt's tempo is brutally expansive, and the stage direction has Röschmann sprinting down a flight of stair during the lead-in recitative. Then during the aria proper she gets in and out of bed, walk around a bit, put on a new robe, pair of shoes, and face paint. I'm just happy she survived the thing. ;o)

  • incredible, how she has the low notes under control and equally sung to high, not all Vitellias can do this. Excellent!

  • Brava!!!

  • @SDCmorg this production was completely cracked out. I think Salzburg has directors compete for 'most insane and nonsensical things to have a singer do'.

  • A magnificent Vitellia :D ....brava!!!!

  • I am addicted to her singing. That last high note (avria?) is thrilling. (Could do without the sight of the sink though). From Albuquerque., N. Mexico

  • I thought I would never hear again another exciting and dramatic Vitellia after Moser's.. wrong I was.

Love this! Although it's so slow I'm almost falling asleep!

  • Oh my, her voice, I recognized it with out knowing who would be singing this song. She has such a beautiful and emotionally full voice. I have her in Th Marriage of Figaro with Miah Persson. Beautiful! <333333 Great upload!

  • i prefer much this full lyric sound instead of spinto soprano sound to this aria

  • Great! Just one thing, I prefer it played faster.

  • Wow, considering you said she was moving all around the stage while singing this, I would have never known! she sounds fantastic- Great bottom notes too! I'll be singing this soon, and it's good to hear some wonderful examples of it during my research days!

  • awesome. thanks!

  • :o) She's the Vitellia on the TDK DVD of the opera from Salzburg 2003. A really good buy, I think. The whole cast is to die for. :o)
