VANCOUVER, Wash. You may know the name: Area 51. It's a top-secret military base in Nevada, where some believe the government has been holding aliens, UFOs and other top-secret experiments for years.

People working there could not say anything about their mission ... until now.

The government now has de-classified much of the information about the base, so KATU spoke with a local man who says he worked there and can now reveal the truth behind the mission.

"I thought it was great," said James Noce, the Area-51 insider speaking now from his Vancouver home. "We were doing something, No. 1, for the country."

Still, there was much that went on behind closed doors. "Oh man, it was spooky out there," said Noce (pronounced "no-see"), a former security agent there. At the time "you couldn't say anything. You couldn't talk about anything, period."

Noce is 72 now, and living in Vancouver. He tells us he worked security at Area 51 from 1962 to 1965.

He said the mission was not aliens, but airplanes: secret spy planes that broke world records for speed. They were developing planes like the SR-17 Blackbird to fight the Cold War, he said.

He is proud of what he says the team really did at Area 51: testing the super-secret super-sonic planes to spy on other countries.

Some former Area 51 workers even have a Web site teaching people more about their years of secrecy and silence, about what went on. But what about those rumors of aliens?

Noce said there were no aliens at the base when he was there. He also said he does not know of any at the base since. He said it just made for good stories.

Yeah, sure. From '62-'65. I have seen other interwiews of Ex Area-51 emplyees.

1. This guy only saw what he was allowed to see, like everyone else.

2. As it is on a base where new planes are developed.

3. Roswell with the aliens was 15yrs earlier. If there would've been aliens, or UFOs, he wouldn't have seen a shit.

4. Whats this interview all about? Everything he (knows &) says is publicly known anyway.
