I am amazed at the mind of Frank Herbert. How he could produce such a colossal wealth of ideas as Dune contains is stunning. I often think science fiction writers have a better vision of humanity and where we may be going than many scientists and so-called 'futurists', because they can consider so many different things at the same time. Kind of like Paul Muad'Dib, I guess.

@squamish4244 Frank Herbert created an unprecedented tapestry of culture, religion and politics in a way that only a student of history like him could could conceive. He was a man who saw things in the long term, which is probably why his epic saga spans nearly 6,000 years, all built towards saving humanity from it's own self-inflicted extinction.

This was the best filming of the material I have seen. I do not understand why David Lynch's version is preferred when he strayed so badly in presenting the combat methods and brilliant military ideas created by Herbert. One of the problems with the material, which the screenplay of this TV treatment brings out, is that Herbert had trouble conceiving what it would be like if a truly prescient human was entrusted with the future of mankind. But at least he tried, and he created an amazing drama.

@squamish4244...hehehehe nice one there..aren't we all when the GOD Emperor of Dune takes center stage...of course with the exception of Duncan Idaho whose unpredictability delights and amuses the Worm and is highly valued by both the Atreides and their descendants..
