Redemption for the Tapco Mini-14 magazine! As I had stated in my June 2010 criticisms of the Gen 1 magazine, I had complete confidence that Tapco would correct the issues. Collaborating directly with Tapco, the is the result. Welcome to the best magazine in the world for the Mini-14: Tapco GEN 2s. The best improvement is the steel lug strapped that I had called for in my initial review. It's a now a reality! This provides excellent durability and gives a rock solid lockup equal to that of the Ruger factory steel Mini-14 mags. Improved and more rigid polymers, feed lips, and body are also part of the Gen 2 makeup. And they only weigh 5.2 ounces, almost half that of the still excellent but brick-heavy 9.0 ounce factory 30 rounders! A minor downside still persists: these still don't like steel cased ammunition and hiccups will occur with it. Perhaps for most guys, this isn't a big deal as brass is used for more serious work. But with brass ammunition in 100s of rounds fired (shown), this Gen 2 Tapco mag rules the roost. Tapco Product Manager and his team are to be congratulated for seeing this project through, listening to the TNP audience, and thus created a work of art feeding device for the Mini-14. I'm going to buy 30 of them! ///////////////////////////////

  • I wonder how ruger feels about not making the best mags for their own rifles?

  • @tooltym1 After seeing the success of this Gen 2 mag, Ruger will probably come into the game late. They should have done it in 1992.

  • @vroomba03 Ruger.

  • great review nutnfancy.Glad to see that Tapco fixed their gen 1 garbage mags. As an owner of an older model mini (pre 2003) I was wondering what your thoughts on barrel stabilizers are (Accu Strut comes to mind). I don't know if any of your friends own an older mini and they have one, but if it can improve accuracy I'm interested. I'm not looking to drive tacks or anything, but you know what I'm talking about. Thanks for all the info you put up and keep going with your outstanding work!

  • now just tell tapco to make their ak mags better!

  • @MrJapper88 They better be!

  • Damn i want a mini 30 so bad but cant bring myself to pay their premium when there are so many other great options for the samy price and most of them are better.

  • I am going to buy 8 of them form Cheaper then dirt... Are they BPA free???

  • Whats the best brand for the 10rd magazine?

  • I am so disappointed that these mag's don't feed steel cased since that's what I mostly shoot. Would you know if the Silver Bear (Steel coated with Zinc) works well with these magazines?

  • Tapco should make mini 30 mags
