Well it's harder to heal a horse's broken leg. Really hard, actually. Some horses, like Barbaro, even develop laminitis. It's sad but unfortunately it's very difficult to heal a broken leg on a big animal like that.

I never knew horses could be in this sorry state! For all of you who hate and abuse horses you are worthless people! Using and hurting horses for fun is not cool and harsh I love horses LOVE not like LOVE,you people are stupid jerks,I should of stop horse haters but some people didn't because they let nature do their thing I hope your ashame right now.

@ilovehorse1100 and @RuffianQueenOfRacing both of you are right--I have two ex-racehorses, one who was starved and one who was treated like the king that he is. It depends on their owners, trainers, and the money that they bring in.... Unfortunately, many horses are abused daily, not just racehorses, but all breeds. This is why we have so many rescue systems for retired racehorses around :) And people should always look into adopting a racehorse first, because they're all very talented!

Alright people sometimes don't know how to listen to a horse...it's EXTREMELY hard to heal an injury like that...a shattered cannon-bone is almost impossible to heal once broken...and even if it does heal the horse may still never walk again.

@RuffianQueenOfRacing ive known loads of horse's to get drugged , not just racehorse's you know. you need to come to the real world of horse's. and as for them to be put down if they loose a race then actually yes they can be put to sleep!! and you want to no why? coz they are some stupid idiots out there that only race and push horse's to their limit (even over that) is for the money and if those horse's dont win then the owners dont see any point in keeping it alive if it doent make money!

@ilovehorse1100 you said it yourself, some are not, you are saying that small group of people that dont look after horses well makes the entire sport bad!

how many horses have been named that have been drugged these days? how many horses have been named that have been put down because they lost these days? most of that happened in early 19hundreds!

I can name PLENTY of horses that are treated like royalty despite their record! I can name PLENTY of horses that broke down,were treated humanely

@RuffianQueenOfRacing actually ur wrong abot them being treated like "royalty"  maybe some do but some dont , like on the news not that long ago about 2 perfectly healthy reacehorse's got put down just because they both lost a race. and sometimes their owners pump them full of drugs to keep them calm (which is illegal)

soo miss "horse lover" now tell me thats treating them like "royalty".
