After watching some speed test between Vista and older OS's, I decided to make a test on my own: the challenge is between:
- 1997 Mitac 5033 (AMD K6-2 300Mhz, 96Mb RAM pc100, 2Mb VRam, Windows 98SE)
- 2008 Acer Aspire 5920 (Intel 2x1667Mhz, 3072Mb RAM, 256Mb Vram, Windows Vista Home 32bit)
Obviously, we all know which will win...

  • well seeing is how the 98 laptop probably didnt have an internet connection. their probably arnt many viruses in it. the vista. cmon its from 08. its been on the internet and has viruses. which slowed it down. i just reinstalled vista and it boots in 11 seconds. including bios boot

  • @adv512 Video was taken in 2/2009 so Vista was only 6 months old, while I had been using Mitac 5033 as main notebook for about the same amount of time. More, 98SE had been connected to the net through a pcmcia network card, and being that old (and not updated) it had far more probabilities to get viruses than Acer one. With factory config, a win98 pc is in average faster than a Vista one, and the gap increases with use, because there are many apps which run startup in Vista and didn't back in 98

  • This is real. I've got a 1999 toshiba satellite 2180 Cdt running windows ME (upgraded) and I compared with my 2009 acer aspire 5315 and the result was the same lol :)

  • Hahaha, Vista is such a fail! I remember when my old HP laptop took ten minutes to start with Vista on it. After installing XP on it, it booted in a few seconds.

  • @adv512 I restalled vista and it booted in 6 seconds.

  • Down with VISTA !

    98 and 3.1 4ever

  • My 98 desktop would be much cooler if it didn't get blue screens of death all the time, lol. But, then again...I'm on a laptop with Windows 7 right now. It's only like a week old and I've gotten the BSOD twice already.

  • @sniffysniff777 Windows 2000 is only a step back from XP, Shouldn't be that laggy...

  • I'm sure the size of the HDD has a lot to do with It.

  • im still using windows 2000, works but it can be really laggy and doesnt work with anything.

  • The reason why older computers have faster loading times is the less memory they have in them which doesn't make them have to load as much.
