This music video is a parody of "Stagecoach", a John Ford Western film made in 1969, and the song "You Belong with Me" by Taylor Swift. This video was made as my Rhetoric in Practice Project for Writing 39B in UCI. The lyrics of the altered song is based closely on the story of "Stagecoach," but this video is filmed in a modern setting with more modern scenes at UCI.
For those that don't know, "Stagecoach" is about a group of strangers who journey together across dangerous Apache Indian territory in a stagecoach. The main character of film, Ringo Kid, joins the group as a captured fugitive after escaping from jail in order to avenge the deaths of his father and brother. Along the way, Ringo falls in love with the female lead and main character of this video, Dallas, who is a prostitute. Dallas is a kind and caring girl, but she is treated with scorn by Lucy Mallory and Hatfield, both born in the South's upper class, because of her occupation and status in society. It is not until Dallas helps deliver Lucy Mallory's baby does she receive any good treatment from Lucy. Afterwards, Ringo asks Dallas to marry him, and she agrees with the stipulation that he flee from custody and forget about avenging his family's deaths. However, the stagecoach is attacked by Apache Indians and the men of the group, including Ringo, fight to protect the women and baby. They are saved when the U.S. Cavalry arrives, and the stagecoach arrives to the destination, Lordsburg, safely. The marshal in charge of the stagecoach allows Ringo to confront his family's killer with the promise that Ringo will come back to be taken to jail. Dallas loves him and pleads with him to not go, but he still leaves. In the end, Ringo returns victorious, and Dallas and Ringo are allowed to leave together to live happily ever after in Ringo's ranch in Mexico.
The last lines in this music video is also the last lines in the film "Stagecoach".
