Jazz bandleader, conductor, bassist and tuba player, Harley White, Jr. along with KDVS Radio Show Host and Poet, Justin Desmangles, combine their talents to perform at Master Renaissance "Harlem Rent Party - Saturday Night Fish Fry, Act 1".
Harley White Jr., son of prominent Bay Area Educator, and Bassist, Harley White Sr., has been an important figure on the Sacramento music scene in a wide array of roles. White has produced, wrote, arranged, or performed on a variety of projects including: Papa's Culture, Blackalicious, Faith Evans, Melvin Van Peebles 1995 Ghetto Gothic and Cake's Prolonging the Magic. Harley White Jr., Jazz Orchestra (HWJO) will perform a variety of pieces from the Harlem Renaissance era.
Writer, Poet, Radio Host, and Moderator, Justin Desmangles, who once hosted jazz and literary radio shows on local station KPOO, and now host's New Day Jazz on KDVS. He has published several articles on jazz music and interviewed and moderated events featuring such influential writers as Amiri Baraka, author of the 1963 classic 'Blues People,' and Ishmael Reed, author of 'Barack Obama & the Jim Crow Media' Desmangles will recite poems by Langston Hughes and original pieces.
