no he died on the highway. he got shot straight through the chest by a double barrel shot gun. maybe straight through the heart. this was the final scene from the movie "electra glide in blue" released in 1973.

This record is actually by Metro, not Peter Godwin, which is why you won't find it on his later solo recordings. Duncan Browne had left the band years before this was written, so ditto.
Time for some credit to the rest of the band, I think. Lovely bass line from Tony Adams and hats off to Martin Lawrence, Strawberry Studios and the 10cc crew. The Richard Burgess mix cost a lot of dosh and just made the kick drum louder
( well, he was man of the moment with Spandau Ballet aaaaaaaaargh )

R4949, Thanks for that, you wouldn't really have guessed it from the contrast between "Journey" and "America", would you?
What are these guys doing these days, any idea?

You know Peter Godwin has a new band called Nuevo with an album called "Sunset Rise". You can hear it on their website!

I remember "Images of Heaven" from back in the day but I missed the rest of Godwin's catalog. Thanks for catching me up, particularly for such poignant subject matter.
Wow!, all credit to you for posting this, I still have the 12" vinyl of this, bought at a closing-down sale for 10p!. I reckon it's one of the best songs I've ever heard and am still raving about it to people after all these years. Was this the same Duncan Browne who did "Journey" way back in the seventies?

I have the Metro 12" of this :). Wasn't it produced by Richard James Burgess who did the first 2 Spandau Ballet albums and was in Landscape (Einstein A Go Go)?

@colinb2008 there is another 12" version re-mixed by Richard Burgess. This is the original mix.

I'm a Peter Godwin fan and never heard of this song. It's not from Correspondence, that's for sure. Where's it from? Thanks for posting.

Hello!
Peter was in a band called METRO - they had three albums: Metro, Furure Imperfect and New Love. Correspondence was Peter's solo Album, produced by Georg Kajanus (from DATA and Sailor - check him out on YouTube). America in My Head was on the METRO album Future Imperfect and released as a 45 - this is the 12-inch version.
