Ethernet has become the standard network of the IT industry and is taking over many parts of the broadcast industry.

Live multi-camera production is the last bastion of the old baseband ways. However with recent technology enhancements it looks like Ethernet may be able to deliver reliable, truly live video production.

The future of live multi-camera production will see engineers plugging in less cable but building more powerful and cheaper facilities than today.

In this video, Global Television's Broadcast Engineer, Danvers Flett introduces attendees at the SMTPE Australia Conference 2011 to a concept of Ethernet-based Live Television Production and shares his thoughts on how this will affect the television industry.

Thanks to SMPTE Australia for accepting Dan's paper for presentation, and thanks to Patrick Sproule and the Television Production students of Charles Sturt University for providing the video coverage.
