Vaan is the main player character in Final Fantasy XII and the lead of the direct sequel, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. Though he is not strictly the game's protagonist, the story is told from his point-of-view. His status as "protagonist" in Final Fantasy XII is indicative of his development; he was the last main playable character to be conceived, but the first one to be drawn this was in an attempt to appeal to the target audiences' demographics, in place of the previously proposed lead character, Basch fon Ronsenburg.
