Thanks a lot for the video. It was a big help. Can you send me a copy of the message you sent the guy asking how to reinsert the pinion? I'm going to try to get this pig out of the garage and get it aligned today. Thanks again!

@905speedgta than mine is an 87 GTA has the digital dash t-tops and the 350 chevy motor and really gets some attention here in the uk, thanx for the advice with the voyager we eventually got the roll pin out and the steering wheel was kept in the centre position so the replacement rack will be going in tomorrow

you would probably have to do one if you moved the steering wheel out of its original position while the rack was disengaged from the steering column.. if you keept he steering wheel in place during the rack replacement its fine.. you dont need to reset the clock spring...do yourself a favor.. throw that haynes book away, and go on ebay and get yourself a shop manual ..clear direct directions for your specific car
i'm replacing the rack on my 99 voyager and it seems to be identical to yours. the only problem i'm having is that damn roll pin won't come out. thanx for posting the video, better than a shop manual anytime

@2000darren . thankyou.. Make sure the steering wheel says in the center position.. you will damage the clock spring and its sensitive components if you overturn that steering wheel.. make sure you lock it into position.. The roll pin is easy, Just get the right size Screw driver and dont be afraid to hit it hard.. good Luck..I have a 1998 Caravan now thats very similar to our third gen vans..Check out my other caravan videos. I like to hear people doing their own work

Thanks for making the video! I just had to do the one on our 2005. It went well but it was very hard getting the hoses loose and I had to get them loose before I could get a wrench on the large nut above the rack near the steering connection. Not sure what wrench would have worked better but at least it didn't cost me $800 at the repair shop! Also I loosened the nuts on the tie rods first. After that they came off easily.

Did you have to re-center the clockspring mechanisms at all? I have Haynes repair manual for this car and they say you have to do it if a new rack - pinion is installed. I wonder if this can be avoided somehow.
