One of the physical tests currently being used by SLFD. Modified from the Department of Defense physical test to reflect more on what we typically will be doing on a call. We not only kept the ladder repetitions but also required the raising and lowering of the ladder along with tying halyard knot and safety knot. Simple, yet sometimes the most bothersome skills are thrown into this version of the physical test.
The main objective of these particular physical tests is to have the participant on SCBA air supply through the whole duration. This allows the participant to focus on their breathing habits while on air. While on air, the participant is take to different stations with long walks between. This is to reflect typical fire scene skills.
1.) Hose drag/pull
2.) Ladder raise, securing with Halyard knot and safety knot.
3.) 10 runs up ladder x3
4.) Force-able entry (Sledge to large tire)
5.) Dummy drag (The poor department way)
6.) Ladder climb 10 rungs x2, then lower.
7.) Equipment carry (roughly 30-50lbs)
