So I think it is good to point at that they are honest and from what i saw/heard in this video I have no problem with it

Probably using a Wacom intuos.

It looks like he is using a Wacom Cintiq, and filming his hand, and screencapturing the screen at the same time, then rotoscoping his hand out of the camera shot, giving it a white backrgound and placing it behing the screencapture of photoshop, and chromakeying out the white so whatever he draws floats over his hand.

i'm guessing he's drawing on a wacom cintiq and in post layering the text back over the video (which has the effect of showing the text "above" the hand)

Without a doubt Reddit has been a success and unless you have a huge pot of money to start with this approach makes sense.
