Charlie Rich performs a medley of three of his hits before a VIP audience (including then U. S. President Jimmy Carter) at Ford's Theatre In Washington D. C.
My parents listened to WHN AM out of NYC back in the day. I remember Charlie RIch and I loved his music! I was very lucky to have been alive during that time! Hey thanks Mom and Dad for introducing me to his music!
Charlie Rich is the first artist I can remember hear sing and his sound stopped me in my tracks. I was about 4 years old and it was 1973. Charlie Rich and his music will always have a special place in my heart because to me he is one of the great American originals. Thanks to my dad Richard for buying those Charlie Rich albums and 8 Tracks. You shaped my musical influences forever!
Fantastic ! I recall when Mr. Rich started making it big in the 70's. I enjoyed C.R. in my teen years. Country when Country wasn't cool? Oh well. I used to watch Pop Goes the Country with one of my favorite aunts, Aunt Zoa, when I spent summers with her in the Oklahoma backwoods. She passed in '82. Thanks mom for getting her a better antenna & that color TV. Made summers a lot more enjoyable. Ma & pa passed in '98. Hope we all'r together & see Charlie sing in the family circle in the sky.

@starr522 Can't find a shred of evidence corroborating this race related antic. It would be nice if you named a source. Charlie Rich was a heavy drinker and a fabulous musician. He struggled for almost a couple decades to make it til he struck gold in the early 70's. In time like so many others the decline of his career was much more simplistic than you purport. His music just went out of vogue. He disappeared for a while and came back with a few very highly acclaimed albums before passing.
I have loved the man since 1973, when I was 6 yrs. old and still love him today, some 38 years later.

@timmyd61109: It's true. Before Charlie Rich announced John Denver as Entertainer of the Year in 1975, he set the CMA envelope on fire.
