Charted at #2 in November 1920. Also #11 for Art Hickman in January 1921. The song was recorded by many artists in the '20's, '30's and '40's including Cab Calloway, Red Nichols, Benny Goodman, Lewis James and Harry James. Al Jolson himself re-recorded it in the 1940's after the success of "The Jolson Story". Written by Al Jolson, Buddy DeSylva and Vincent Rose.

B-side is "Old Pal, Why Don't You Answer Me?" by Henry Burr.

  • Al Jolson had to pay for copyright infringement to the publisher of Puccini's Tosca opera (the aria was " E lucevan le stelle")

  • Such a beautiful song!... sung by the greatest entertainer... I always heard this song before Boardwalk Empire made it popular again...and I am so glad they played it..especially when Nucky was looking through the window peering at the fortune teller...Masterpiece.

  • He was from Baltimore, My beloved Aunt Dora Mestesky Ackerman dated his brother who owned a drug store; he was a pharmacist in Washington, D.C.. She was much younger so she never met the great Al Jolson.

Coming from a religious family, Olson defied his parents by not becoming a Cantor. From the movie, it looks like they were proud of his accomplishments. Who knows for everything is how it is perceived

  • 1世紀前の歌声だ、"スワニー"のアル・ジョルソン・アヴァロン・この叙情曲はこの世紀のエンタテナーしかないのか・もっともなぜあまり歌わないのか? #jazzm
