Nocturnal Translations: a forum for Tales of Rebirth and Tales of Symphonia translation hack projects!

I took the incantation for Grand Cross from Dawn of the New World and slotted it into the video of Colette performing Grand Cross (along with some tasy BGM!).
Before you ask, no I did not replace any sound files. I could but it would take a very, very long time and I'm not fully sure if I could do it.
The text editting is the only thing I have done, as you can see by the Tech banner for "Grand Cross".

"Light of redemption that guides us to day break, listen to my voice. Holy prayers will be spoken for all eternity. Now let there be light! Grand Cross!!"

You can tell how much Colette's VA, Heather Hogan has changed. She was just a teenager when Symphonia was recorded, now she's a young lady. Her voice has matured a little so it basically sounds like an older Colette, though I guess you could pass it off as "more serious" Colette.

Enjoy!

  • Holy shit dude that was neat !

BTW where did you find the text files in the PS2 version ?

  • @Slickdown Menu text is in the executable file.

  • @Judgeyy Do you mean IRXARC.bin ? Because i've searched through the files on my Tales' DVD but all i found was the Voices and BGM files plus some files with weird extensions

  • @Slickdown no, the SLPS_xx.x file. Why do you want to know anyway?

  • Nice. Didn't the orig ToS actually have this incantation(or similar incantation) of this hidden away as an unused portion of the game?

  • The Japanese Gamecube version did, but because it was unused Namco didn't have the line translated because it would have cost money for nothing.

  • This is so epic. I've been looking for an English video of Grand Cross forever.

    I'd rate this a 6 if I could. Thanks.

  • Her voice in DotnW is so much better in the first game in my opinion.

  • dude she sounds awesome saying this. she sounds firm instead of softie.

  • oh my imagine if she messed up grand cross as well

  • Only Colette and Presea kept the same VAs.

I do not say they others sux, but yea, when you grew up listening to someone's voice, and suddenly the characters have another voice, it gives another feeling on your experience and memories. I don't think the word "they sux" is the right word. I dont even know why the same VAers werent kept. But yea, it's always like that, a character must stay with the same voice to keep being good. Cam Clarke is Kratos, for us, no one could do it 'better' then him (:

  • @Chodozia Umm OK? I was just stating that she got better at voice acting

  • @untraceablelink Nobody starts with a perfect voice. Excepting those select VERY few that do. But she's not one of them. She just needed to VA a game and started to get better at it. I still like the older voice rather than the newer one, simply from nostalgia'ing all over the floor, and I can appreciate the work they put into the game, even if they do work harder on newer Tales series games. Back then, they didn't have the budget they do now.

  • @Chodozia Doesn't mean she didn't improve dramatically since then :/

  • @untraceablelink It's funny because they're the same person.

  • @Blitzballgott

Small mistake. I meant the voices in the spinoff game. Forgot the s. Anyways I heard that there was a new person voicing her too. Never really listened that much to the voices since I heard that all the ones from the original had different voice actors. Although I can kinda of see it, it sounds different from before though. Glad to hear that they at least kept her voice actor :D

  • @TalesOfGod

You're aware of the fact that it's the same lady who dubs her in both versions? She's just a lot older now, but she still has that typical Colette touch which we love =)
