Atkinson Farm is family owned and operated by Mike, Theresa & Bobby Atkinson. Mike Atkinson is a third generation farmer who has been farming all his life. His grandfather started farming in 1929 and the farm has been in the family ever since. The farming tradition promises to live on as Mike and Theresa's son, Bobby has agreed to take over Atkinson Farm when the time comes.

Over the years, the Atkinson's true love of farming has been put to the test as residential developers have approached them to sell the farm. Much to the dismay of the developers, the Atkinson's answer has remained the same. The farm is "not for sale".

This explains why Atkinson Farm's 46 acres of land are surrounded by the Spring Texas subdivisions of Louetta Woods to the East, Louetta Lakes to the South, and Cypresswood Glen to the West.

Atkinson Farm is one of a handful of farms in Spring Texas where you can still buy produce direct from the farm and nothing beats the taste of freshly picked produce.

The produce available at the market is seasonal. During my trip to the market in June, there were red potatoes, onions, cucumbers, green beans, squash, peppers, egg plant, watermelon, cantaloupe, and my favorite plump and juicy tomatoes -- ready to be thickly sliced and put on a burger right off the grill or better yet on a BLT sandwich

If you ask Theresa Atkinson what a running a farm is like, she will tell you it is work, work, work as the vegetables need to be picked every day.

Atkinson Farm is located at 3217 Spring Cypress about 2.5 miles west of 1-45 in Spring Texas. They are open from 10 am to 6 pm Monday -- Saturday and 10 am -- 2 pm on Sunday.
