The video your watching is kind of a spur of the moment thing. I realized i had my camera so i pulled it out to show how much of a disgrace the security is there. The clip you see here is me and the rest of my family just heading to our gate like everyone else, not really caring. We were in the main plaza (shopping area of the airport)when the alarm went off. The PA was saying " Attention Attention The Fire Alarm Has been Activated. Leave The Area Immediately." So what did the staff do? Nothing, other than pulling shutters to close there shops, everyone just stood still. If that wasn't a prank or a drill a lot of people would have been injured or even killed. So Gatwick if your watching this take notes.

  • I got evacuated from the Main Palaza at Gatwick N Terminal as well! Everyone looked sh1t scared. We were evacuated onto the tarmac just below the gates. The Staff were not trained to deal with a evacuation. Everyone was walking in their own directions!

The Fire alarm you got was a standby fire alarm signiling wait for further instructions!

  • we had just been evacuated from the main plaza

  • it was a itermittant alarm which means that there is no cause for concern in the area (listen to what is being said!), you would have been sent to your gate as it was away from the full alarm area and would have been deemed as 'safe', alarming areas with different priorties also allows the travellers to continue on there journey without delay and not being sent out and having to go through the security process again! THINK BEFORE YOU COMMENT!

  • we had just came out of the full alarm area

  • @Gb755c its not a sound, there are bells on the wall

  • How do you do a bell sound on a voice evac system?

  • It looks as if the english no longer mess around with fires ever since the kings cross fire. Good to see that they actually evacuated though. Ive seen vids of us airports with fire alarms going off and nobody moves at all!

  • i was on the bus out side of the north terminal when a fire alarm went off i cant beleve they go of in both terminals thow

  • @trucksoner its the same really in the UK.

Its only in more recent times that weve gone from continuous (and generally analogue systems) to multi signalling systems (and digital).

Most schools and public buildings just use continuous ringing bells or sirens.

  • after reading ur discription... im sure the pa system tell you to remain where u are and wait for further instructions...thats standard for any building that size... until they know exactly where the fire is...

  • i go to birmingham airport all the time! how loud is the alarm throughout the building?

  • @Polinio09 In the UK i believe it is required in a larger public area by law (shopping centre/airport/museum etc) but not in supermarkets or shops, in many places in london etc emergency announcements are made in multiple languages because of the EU.

  • funny how everyone on here seems to know the rules with continous tones and intermittent ones...here in vancouver, canada every building seems to have a completely different system and most are just a continuous bell, but i guess that's true anywhere with older buildings that haven't been renovated in a while. most high-rises seem to have voice evac but other newish buildings still don't really seem standardized

  • @marty11112 is this required in the Uk?
