A similar rational as someone who prefers a certain way of pronouncing... English. I prefer American pronunciation. All being versatile, I myself, love this video and would like to hear other ways of pronouncing latin that have never crossed my ears. But personally, this kind of Italian Latin feels the best. Im sure a standard of pronunciation was sought even back then.

  • I never understand why academics get their knickers in a twist about Latin pronunciation. So long as we stick to Mediterranean or European pronunciation at the time, we won't go far wrong. A Welsh speaking Briton would have pronounced it slightly differently to a German, to an Italian, or to an inhabitant of Palestine. The vowels would have been similar, but the consonants quite varied. When I read Orsberg, I find myself pronouncing Latin like I pronounce modern Greek, my mother tongue.

  • Really well read! It's one of my favourite poems. Gratias ago tibi!
