Johann Baptist Joseph Maximilian Reger (19 March 1873 -- 11 May 1916) was a German composer, conductor, pianist, organist, and academic teacher.
Born in Brand, Bavaria, Reger studied music in Munich and Wiesbaden with Hugo Riemann. From September 1901 he settled in Munich, where he obtained concert offers and where his rapid rise to fame began. During his first Munich season, Reger appeared in ten concerts as an organist, chamber pianist and accompanist. He continued to compose without interruption. From 1907 he worked in Leipzig, where he was music director of the university until 1908 and professor of composition at the conservatory until his death. In 1911 he moved to Meiningen where he got the position of Hofkapellmeister at the court of Georg II, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen. In 1915 he moved to Jena, commuting once a week to teach in Leipzig. He died in May 1916 on one of these trips of a heart attack at age 43.
He had been also active internationally as a conductor and pianist. Among his students were Joseph Haas, Sándor Jemnitz, Jaroslav Kvapil, Ruben Liljefors, George Szell and Cristòfor Taltabull.
Reger was the cousin of Hans von Koessler.
Joachim Dalitz, organist of the Concert House Berlin - Schauspielhaus am Gendarmenmarkt, was born in Leipzig in 1951. After studying privately under Dietrich Barth (organ and piano) and Prof. Gerhard Erber (piano), he studied music at the Academy of Music "Felix Mendelsohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig, among others at Prof. Hannes Kästner (organ and harpsichord), Prof. Heinz Volger, Prof. Rolf-Dieter Arens and Hermann Wolf (piano) and Prof. Dr. Heinz Röttger (conducting).
After Joachim Dalitz had already won second price on the subject of piano at the 1968 Johann Sebastian Bach Competition for young people, he successfully took part in diverse international organ competitions and in 1976 he won second prize at the 5th International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig. He won a diploma with honours at the International Organ Competition "Prague Spring" in 1979.
From 1977 to 1979 he did after graduate studies at the Academy of Musical Arts in Prague under Prof. Jan Hora. Between 1979 and 1984 he worked in Magdeburg as the organist of the concert hall "Georg Philipp Telemann" and as harpsichordist at the "telemann-consort-magdeburg". From 1982 to 1984 Joachim Dalitz was lecturer for organ and piano at the Academy of Church Music in Halle and from 1988-1991 teaching commissioner for organ at the Academy of Music in Leipzig. In 1984 he was appointed to be the concert organist at the Concert House Berlin - Schauspielhaus am Gendarmenmarkt, which was reopened as a concert house in the same year.

Thanks for inviting me to be your friend, I will do so gladly! This is a fine recording you have found. Most Reger played on organs from his time end up as complete mush, but this one is clear and majestic, full of temperament, thanks to the Jehmlich organ with its roots in the Silbermann tradition.
