Quite apart from the superb singing, what an actress Grace Moore is in this clip- budding actresses please note.

GRACE STARTED OUT IN REVUE MAYBE THATS WHERE SHE LEARNT HER ACTING SKILLS.
ALL TOO SHORT AND A TRAGIC DEATH IN 1947.
JEANETTE MACDONALD STARTED OUT MUCH THE SAME WAY. BOTH HAD HUGE CARRERS IN FILMS, LUCKY OR US.... ALL OF IT CAN BE SEEN ON YOUTUBE
THERE ARE NO ARTISTS OF TODAY THAT COMPARE.

This is just so wonderful; all done in one take with only one "throwaway" shot away from the singers; done in one take, sound-on-set on one track, probably recorded with, at most, three microphones, no auto-tune, no compression with limiters.
That and the bits of acting they do while they sing is also quite sublime.
This is what real talent can handily accomplish.

Just finished listening to Tito Gobi and now LT. What beautiful voices and what a pleasure to hear baritones sing without what I call the baritone "bellow."

ROBERT WEEDE AND THOMAS L THOMAS ARE TWO BARITONES WHO DO NOT "BELLOW", CHECK SOME OF MY POSTINGS FOR EXAMPLES. THERE IS OF COURSE IGOR GORIN.

Its wonderful- - a wonderful performance from both of them' So sad that Mr. Tibbett had his career and life cut short by drink- what a sad loss to the world.
Though i know this song, and love it, I had never heard this duet before. Haunting, Lovely, lovely. From an era when people with real talent sang beautiful music -songs with tender sophisticated lyrics, written by people with passion and poetry.
Thanks to the poster

Too beautiful for words. Luscious sounds from both singers take us to another plane of existence.

That's a very good point.
Yes, when we first watch this, we tend to watch whoever is singing; I know that I did.
However in the crucible of repetition it is Ms. Moore who ultimately captures the eye; she really does a splendid job of playing to the camera and she's never hammy and/or heavy-handed; she handles the whole thing in a totally sublime way.
It's stuff like this that makes old movies such a joy to watch.

By the way, I believe Lawrence Tibbett suffered from severe arthritis but did an awful lot to help struggling musicians. He died in the same way as William Holden and,in a way, my own father.

Found this about 2 years ago, then had to reformat and could not remember who or what it was .Just remember the depth of the singing. Have been making the neighbours smile today--not because of my singing ( I hope) but because it is different. I'm afraid Pavarotti would struggle to impress the English.
