Hunting is the reason for "so many deer" plus high Deer Vehicle Collisions

"Why do states like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, PA, GA and TX which have the most hunters also have the most deer? Why have deer populations in these as well as other heavily hunted states steadily risen in the past three or four decades"

"Driving" the deer by hunters can cause Deer Vehicle Accidents

"While animal-vehicle collisions can happen any time of year, fall is the peak season for deer-car accidents. That's mainly because autumn is both mating season and hunting season, so deer are more active and more likely to roam beyond their normal territory." State Farm Insurance

With a lot of hunters in the woods, they will push deer out of wooded areas, making them run across the road, Missouri Department of Conservation Agent Dan Akin said.

  • Deer become very active during this time and also become more active during daylight hours which increases the odds of DVA and is also why the hunting season coincides with this period. What a stupid argument to say deer are more active due to hunters in the woods.

  • I know how easily deer can get spooked so imagine the wildlife killers when in the forest trampling their disgusting feet or driving their ATV to murder wildlife? Even when a deer is shot with an arrow or bullet I have seen other deer take off including the wounded deer ( the wounded deer most from bowhunting) then remember the hunters having to track the deer, drag the bodies to the car .

  • There are plenty of areas in my area that are illegal to hunt yet the deer are out of control. There are no food plots, no hunters pushing them and no reason to artificially inflate their numbers. The biggest reason for DVA can be attributed to the "rut".

  • In Millburn NJ when they started "culling' deer in one part of town the deer started to seek refuge in the non-killing areas. That is what happens when the population of deer are ballooned to satisfy recreational killers deer will move to areas that they feel is a safe haven till the killers goes there too and blame the deer.

That is why in urban deer we need deer birth control not lethal culling.

  • so u want us to do what? kill ourselves?

  • If you are a sports hunter sure why not? Make sure to take the others with you its a lonely trip to hell LOL

  • Shared to my Facebook profile. Thank you.

  • That is why they continue to reject deer birth control even knowing full well that killing does not work in fact it does the opposite. Whitetails make up 70% of the money that the hunting industry makes and its worth billions so why would they want long term deer herd reduction?

  • Now that is a new one must have read back comments and sat here for a while pondering on a new "why we are not to blame" excuse. Funny though I don't see that on any DVA statistic report about winter being less food and that is why DVA peaks its because of hunting and rut but where are all these rut deer coming from? We can clearly see that the hunting industry are producing deer for recreational killing meaning lots of big rack deer for hunters to kill.

  • Just let me fill you in on a little fact If you dont know why less deer are hit by cars in the spring of the year? The reason why is that deer dont actually have to go looking for food during the spring and summer food is plentiful for them because everything is in full bloom. And during the fall and winter deer have to look for food because everthing is dead. You can not blame hunters for that. Deer looking for food and rut activity is the cause of most DVA. And thats fact
