Charity work is at the centre of British life and few charities occupy such a cherished position as Guide Dogs. In this short film, people from all walks of life are going walkies to help raise vital funds for Guide Dogs. Forty people and their dogs of all shapes and sizes met at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh to participate in a sponsored walk for Guide Dogs. This is just one of hundreds of 'go walkies' events taking place all over the country.

Guide dog owner and 'go walkies' organiser Sandy Miller explains how having a guide dog has increased his day-to-day independence, and how guide dog Alex has become his best friend. 'Go walkies' participant Sheena Edwards, joined by her Labrador Sky, discusses why 'go walkies' is a fantastic idea, namely because of the flexibility around the events. They lend themselves to any size of group enjoying a day out, and walks can take place at any time of year and cover any distance.

Now it's easier than ever to get involved with Guide Dogs. A free iPhone application puts you in touch with a variety of 'go walkies' events. It also enables users to discover, track and share new walks to explore with their dogs, and much more.

People around the United Kingdom are enjoying taking part in 'go walkies for Guide Dogs,' meeting other dog lovers, socialising their dogs, and raising money for a great cause. Thanks to them, Guide Dogs continues to transform the lives of blind and partially sighted people.

The Guide Dogs service receives no government funding even though it costs nearly 50,000 to fund a guide dog from birth until retirement. Help us to do something amazing today and get your walking shoes on...http://www.gowalkies.org.uk
