La Mesa acepta premio de derechos humanos/Salvadoran activists win human rights award

Discurso de Vidalina Morales en aceptar el Premio Internacional de Derechos Humanos Letelier-Moffitt en Washington DC, el 15 de Octubre, 2009. Lo acepta en nombre de la Mesa Nacional Frente a la Minería Metálica en El Salvador, como miembra de la Asociación de Desrollo Economico Social en el departamiento de Cabañas, una de las organizaciones regionales que forman parte de la Mesa Nacional. Cabañas es un departamiento en dondé la Mesa ha tenido exito en defender sus tierras frente a la amenaza representada por la empresa canadiense, Pacific Rim.

Speech by Vidalina Morales in accepting the 2009 Letelier-Moffitt International Human Rights Award at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on October 15th, 2009. She accepts the award on behalf of El Salvador's National Coalition Against Mining in El Salvador, as a member of the Economic and Social Development Association from the department of Cabañas, one of the regional organizations that makes up the national coalition. Cabañas is a region in which the coalition has had success in defending its lands from the threat represented by the Canadian gold mining company, Pacific Rim.

It's sad to see how we humans see money more valuable than life. I understand we need to work but at the same time we don't need to poison our communities for money. If this companies had this gold mines behind there yard with there families living there they to would be protecting to let their children live a healthy life.

Claro, el comienzo del padecer de las comunidades por falta de oportunidades de trabajo y calidad de vida. Como son de ignorantes y radicales y estupidos que se vuelven contra ustedes mismos. Ni prestan el hacha ni pican madera. Primero que todo la "Mesa" no tiene ningún terreno, son propiedad de la compañía y la comunidad está a favor por la oportunidad que se les da para trabajar y el bienestar para sus familias. Mesa de radicales y oportunistas debería llamarse.
