I notice that this grinder does make a bit of a mess. Upon looking at the specs it became clear why. The wheel speed is about double that of the Tormek and Grizzly 10in grinders. So the extra speed pulls more water up and onto the blade and consequently will spill off the blade when you run it side to side.
No other new developments.

Follow up1:
Still works. I am still not blown away by performance, but for the price it works. I have picked up a Tormek truing tool and grader, these produce a much nicer surface on the stone itself.
Yes, the Tormek fixture fit right onto this bar.
I noticed that the HF website has a new style bar, just like what is box cover. It eliminates the bend and is likely straighter from the factory. I called up customer service and they sent me a new bar no questions asked.
