I'll certainly give you faster, but I doubt very seriously easier.

I split 8 full cord a year. We heat with wood. I can knock out 50% more in the same time with a maul / axe / sledge&wedge than I can with my expensive gas powered splitter ... but it's waaaaaayyyyyyy easier with the splitter.
