Insomnia: Joe

I've only been here for two days and in those two days Ive gotten about five hours of sleep total. Last night seemed completely unreal. Maybe it was because I was exhausted.

The motel was completely silent. So quiet, I could hear myself breathing. It was around 12 when everybody had retreated to their rooms. Nick finally decided to leave the steps, but he said he was going to sleep on the floor in Selena's room. Personally, I find that a bit creepy, but you know. Whatever works. "I just want to make sure she's ok." was his excuse.

I had been laying awake for about an hour or two. I kept replaying the scene in my head; Demi sleeping, her body next to mine, her smile, her laugh, the smell of her hair, holding hands, giving her a goodnight kiss on the cheek. Something interrupted my thoughts. Muttering was coming from Demis room. I ran to see what was wrong. Demi was in her bed, still asleep, tossing and turning, crying out in her sleep. I carefully woke her up. She sat up, and pulled her legs into a criss-cross style. I sat behind her and wrapped my arms around behind her, my hands, meeting hers in her lap.

"What happened?" I whispered in her ear, just before I kissed her cheek.
"Nothing." she said, putting her hands over her face, rubbing her eyes. "It's nothing don't worry about it." she said, leaning her cheek against mine.
"Tell me." I begged. "Please?" I said, taking her hands into mine.
"It's nothing. I was just worried about Selena and I can't sleep that's all."
"Do you want me to stay with you until you fall asleep?" I asked. I could tell she was tired.
"Mmm, that would be nice." She said, leaning her head back onto my shoulder. I slowly rocked her back and forth. I watched her breathe as her chest rose up and down. I tried to follow her breathing, up, down, pause, up, down, pause....
When I was sure she was asleep, I tucked her back into bed and went back to my room. Just a few minutes ago, Demi Lovato was in my arms. I thought. I glanced over at the wall that divided our rooms. Demi Lovato is sleeping right over there.

3:30 am, I got a knock on the door.
"Joe?" Demi peeked in. I pretended to be asleep. Joe? I heard the door shut and footsteps moving towards my bed. "Are you asleep?" she whispered. She was standing right by the bed. I could sense it. "Night Joe." she sighed. I opened my eyes just as she was about to walk away, grabbed her hand, and pulled her down just enough to kiss her on the lips. It was a quick, soft kiss, but a kiss none the less.
"Stay with me?" I asked, scooting over on the bed.
"Ok." she whispered, climbing in. I put the blanket around her and wrapped my arm around her.
"Joe?" she asked.
"Mmm?" I mumbled, with my eyes closed.
"Do you think Selena will still be mad at me tomorrow?" she asked.
"No. Of course not." I replied, moving her bangs out of her face, kissing her forehead.
"But she's angry at me because I spend all my time with you and have been ignoring her." she continued. "I don't want to stop being with you just because shes mad. But I don't want her to stay mad at me either."
"She'll come around." I promised. "Now go to sleep." I whispered. "Nick will take care of her. I know he will fix everything."
"Ok." she whispered back, holding my hand under the covers.
"One more thing..." I added. "Put your hair back more often." I said, tucking her hair behind her ear.
"Ok." she mumbled. I kissed her forehead and leaned my head against hers.
"Night Joe."
"Night, Sleeping Beauty." I whispered.
