Sega Rally 2 running on the WIP version of Supermodel v2. There is a little bit of audio stuttering at certain points when the frame rate drops (not much though) but on the whole this is running pretty smoothly.

My Pc stats:
Intel core i5-2310, 8 Gb
Nvidia GeForce GT530 -1GB

There's a bonus point available for whoever can tell me which Transformer turned into a Lancia Stratos :)

  • ... and I mean that as someone who's been a life long Sega fan and wishes they were still a force to be reckoned with. But seriously, some of the decisions they've made in the post Megadrive era to the present have been so unbelievable fuck-witted it's no wonder they're struggling in today's market.

  • @cakestalker Yeah, it's like Sega learned nothing from the rush released port of the original Daytona on the Saturn. I mean, what's the point in releasing a port of a popular arcade game for a brand new super-console if it doesn't utilise the system's full graphical power? And not only do they under utilise the console's resources, they actually make conversion look a bit shit too, with the aforementioned pop-up and slow frame-rate. Nice one Sega! No wonder people stopped buying your consoles...

  • It would be nice if we could disable the dust/smoke plumes until they're fixed, because then they wouldn't get in he way like they do now.

  • @MrThunderwing

The japanese dreamcast version ran in 60fps in everything (of course not stable framerate), but they changed it for the pal\usa version to average around 30fps instead (though of course it still drops below that too). Thanks Sega, for the sloppy port of Sega Rally 2, stupidly using Windows CE, adding graphical glitches, tons of pop-up and draw.in, 20-30 fps instead of rock solid 60fps from the arcade and let's not forget the inferior car models and effects.

  • Your vid is popular on Panama

  • @jaymum23 Yeah dude, you've totally hit the nail on the head. the PC version was epic (60 fps!) but the model 3 arcade version just wipes the floor with it. The DC version , graphically, was just piss poor, and there's no excuse because Daytona 2001 was 60 fps and looked great (despite the terrible handling). Still, at least we've we've finally got a decent console version of Daytona USA now...

  • @PaddyHawthorne From a gameplay and content perspective I won't argue. But a huge part of the allure of Model 3 games in their day was due to their jaw-dropping graphics. There is no comparison between the Model 3 Step 2 version and its home ports. The PC version may have extra filters (Model 3 had massive AA and shaders tho), but that version uses the same low-polygon models and shorter draw distance as the Dreamcast port. Just look at the Stratos model here; there is way more geometry to it.

  • @PaddyHawthorne I've actually got another video uploaded where I compare the PC and Dreamcast versions to Supermodel. Despite the graphical bugs I think Supermodel wins easily, although I do think the PC version does look really good - especially considering it's age. I didn't realise that the time attack in the DC version ran at 60 fps, so cheers for the heads up. I'll have to check it out.
