Four Topics:

Christian Virtues and Moral Excellence [1:5-1:15]
Evidence of Christs Divine Authority [1:16-1:21]
Dangers of False prophets [2:1-2:22]
The Certainly of Christs Return [3:1-18].

We begin where we left off in the last video, with the Transfiguration:

His Transfiguration [Lt, transfiguratus; Mt. 17:2; Lk 9:35].

The voice from the Shekinah was that of the Father [ [Lt, honorem et gloriam; Mt. 17:1-13; Mk 9:3 ] and no mere angel.

False prophets deny that it was 'Christ who bought them' [ cf. Q. 4:157 ] and greed is a sign that follows them [ Ecc 5:8-6:12; Lk 12:13-34; I Tim 6:3-10; Js 5:1-6; cf. Q. 59:7 ], as is Illicit sexuality [ cf. Q. 56:11, seq ].

False prophets mix lies and deceit, many fall victim:

Peter, like Paul, warns us that God has been patient enough [ Rom 9:22 ] and that destruction is hanging over the condemned [ 2:1-3 ]. Judgment cannot be escaped, as has been demonstrated to the wicked of ancient days and promised to our own generation [ II Pet 3:8; cf. Epistle of Barnabas 15.4 ].

Though his family was few in number, Noah nevertheless preached rightousness, though none listened [ 2:5 ]. Like Noah, we must remain firm in our own faith, and 'perfect in our generation' or risk being cut off.

  • What is that Q in the sidebar you refer to? You don't mean the hypothetical Q document, do you (there is no 4:157, as far as I know). I have studied under one of the chief scholars of Q and after being saved I have come to the conclusion that it is imaginary. It's been very logically developed, but with so many 'necessary' assumptions that the end product is a vision of something that likely never existed. Kind of like macroevolution.

  • The reference to Q. 4:157 is to the Quran Surah 4 verse 157. I was pointing out that Islam denies the death and resurrection of Christ. Sorry for any confusion.

  • Jesse, I liked what you said.

  • Thank you. I hope you are doing well...:0)
