1996 NASCAR Brickyard 400 - Kyle Petty and Sterling Marlin crash

Kyle Petty running in second cut a right front tire hitting the turn 4 wall hard. He came down the track getting hit from Sterling Marlin who had nowhere to go. Petty continue on for a third lick this time at the inside wall near the pit entrance. Despite going to Methodist for pain he would be released without any injury. Interview from Marlin.

I was wondering if someone had this one... I remember seeing Kyle's car come to rest in front of the pit wall and thinking "that is the skinniest cup car I've ever seen!" I'm glad he was generally ok.

@PorygonFanatics He missed a couple of races with minor injuries, Todd Bodine drove in his place I believe. But you're right, any one of those hits shoulda effectively ended his season. Good Lord was on Kyle's side.

Haha. I miss Sterling. I enjoy today's NASCAR but I wish it was more like when I was a kid because drivers weren't so wrapped up in image yet and being polished and able to talk perfectly didn't mean more than driving the race cars well. You never knew what was gonna come out of any of their mouths at any given time, there are a few like that today but I miss the character of '90s NASCAR.

I've met Kyle a few times. Kind and generous every time.  I was at this race. He was leading for awhile and the place went crazy. I watched this wreck and was heartsick..listening to the headphones saying they were checking vitals and for a pulse. Do not talk bad about this man.
