  • Ha - awesome. I was looking for the Australian version of this ad and found this one and noticed that the American one is the same script and we obviously just re-did it. I'll keep searching as the kid in the Australian one who says "Why didn't I buy insurance?" is hilarious. He's quite posh.

  • I think that must have happened a lot, at least in the 80s. There's an early Australian Care Bear commercial that's identifical to the American one, only with different actors.

  • This commercial was actually filmed in the Late 1970's but may still have been shown in the late 1980's as it did run for about 5 to 6 years. and yes that is a NY Accent because I grew up in Manhattan and this was filmed in Nyack NY.

  • Thanks for the confirmation on the accent! Yup, I do believe this commercial had quite a long run on television. This particular airing was recorded on a VHS tape in 1983.

  • My father in lauw

  • Definitely sounds like a New York accent to me. ;o)

  • I remember seeing this commercial.

  • @bin1127 lol

  • That's the most unenthusiastic commercial voice ever. Sounds like he lost the game of life already and got stuck with a dead end voice over job.

  • My Insurrawnce.

Oops - I meant to say that the Yul Brynner ad "wasn't allowed".

  • @AnnainCA

Yeah we used to have a ruling where Australian TV wasn't allowed to show American advertisements over a certain length. There was huge controversy here I remember when the Yul Brynner "don't smoke" advertisement was allowed to be used in Australia, even when they cut it right down. There was a lot of rumor that the tobacco industry were behind it.

What tends to happen now in Australia is we get American ads with dubbed over Australian voices. It looks sooooooooo fake and stupid.
