Few if any historians ever believed the 4 million figure having arrived at their own estimates independently which is why the number on the plaque was changed. The inflated 4 million figure was never apart of the estimated 5 to 6 million jews killed in the holocaust.

@holocaustdefender33 just wondering, how come at first the auchwitz death toll was estimated around 4 million(it was even written on the auchwitz memorial) but then later the polish government lowered the toll to 1.5, changed the number on the memorial but the overall death toll of jewish victims remained 6 million.
