Its 1993 and Alastair Lynch lobs at his fan club's emergency meeting to pretend he feels bad about betraying them and condemning the Fitzroy Football Club to a slow and painful death. Makes you wonder why he assured fans at the Best & Fairest count a short time earlier that he wasn't going anywhere.
It was being bandied around the traps that Lynch was seeking other greener pastures, so Roys fans, getting toey, organised a bit of a pow-wow to work out what they should do about it. Unfortunately, the very day of the intended meeting, Lynch changed submarines. The get-together became, rather than a "how can we stop it" to a "how should we feel about it".
Recorded by DQ at the Fitzroy Club Hotel (the Albion Charles in Northcote) on 27 October 1993. DQ you can take over ownership of this if you like, just get in touch.
Fitzroy fans still cry themselves to sleep on a nightly basis, it was a cruel blow.
I don't think the video description gives enough credit to the difficult situation Lynch was in, nor how clearly hard it was for him to walk away from Fitzroy. He didn't HAVE to show up at this event at all. It took courage, typical of the great man.
Great video nonetheless. Great piece of history.
