My son turned ten just the other day.
He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play.
Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today,
I got a lot to do." He said, "That's ok."
And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed,and

Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say,
"Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head, and he said with a smile,
"What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please?"

I've long since retired and my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind."
He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time.
You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's have the flu,
But it's sure nice talking to you, dad.
It's been sure nice talking to you."
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.

Story of my own...I went with a friend to see Harry in 1981, at the O'Keefe Centre (now renamed Hummingbird).I was livin in Toronto at the time. He played Hamilton Place shortly after, and this concert was made into a tv program. The show was amazing, of course. After the show, he stood out in the lobby, as he'd promised, and signed autographs for any and all who wanted to meet him. Apparently he did this at every concert. Good platform to also encourage donations to his World Hunger project. Anyways, the lineup to see him was huge, of course, and, knowing that we would be seeing him again, at Ontario Place outdoor theatre in August 81, (a smaller venue), we decided we'd skip trying to meet him this night, and do it after the Ontario Place show. "..we're gunna have a good time then....."

July 16th, 1981 the music stopped.

you know we can call this song sad, racist, or whatever we wich to attach, but listen carefully with your eyes closed and the message is clear, fathers be with you kids, kids understand your parents and above all make time for each other

funny how i dont put the lyrics ahead of the actual music, i just enjoy the music, after all, this is music, the lyrical statement is always a bonus to any piece of good music. do people ever regard the "musical" statement...cuz i'll tell you now, no matter how good the lyric, and no matter how we might relate to it, a hell of a lot more work goes into the music..so lets talk about that great guitar line shall we...

My mom died 13 years ago, I was in my teens and since my dad has been my mother too and also the very best friend. Though now seperated by continents we keep thinking of each other and sure will be together as family again, very soon. I love you Dad and very proud of you.

My dad really lived this song. his old man never did shit with him. My dad tried but we still never connected. 28 now he's 58. Still time to have a good time then.
