i recommend going to beginning band in 5th grade,so you can be in advanced in 6th. A lot more fun in advanced band. Beginning band you learn all the basic notes and songs.

Definitely. The kids in out district start band in 5th grade. At this middle school, there are 200 6th graders in band and they're split up into 3 different classes, regardless of ability. This concert was held in the school gym with all 3 classes put together. They also have an audition-only advanced 6th grade band.
