Oil first found in the 1930's, cuts (slices cut out of the wetlands) were made throughout the marsh to make room for oil wells. Since the beginning the family landowners have been relentless on having oil companies leave the landscape the way they found in. Took said they are ironically a strong ally in the conservation of the land in that they have a lot of money and motivation for being here and for maintaining this ecosystem. We saw Oil Rig Drilling at about 10,000 feet.
