His Majesty started his reign on 9 June 1946, which means as of today, 4 January 2009, His Majesty has reigned for close to 62 years and 7 months. The longest reigning monarch of all time that is known to history is Pepi II of Egypt who reigned for 94 years or so, and as such, His Majesty the King of Thailand has yet to become the longest reigning monarch in history. However, I fervently pray that His Majesty will eventually take his place as the longest ruling monarch ever. Song phra charoen!

King Bhumibol Adulyadej is currently the world's longest-serving current head of state and the longest monarch in all of global history. He is an accomplished musician and he actually played saxophone with Elvis Presley back in the '60s!
