  • @ImPitch... thank you for the labor you put forth to contribute this video. It is a treasure!

  • HOW RICH! ONE GREAT VOICE AFTER ANOTHER!

  • Ameling is too curt, Battle is light but pure, Fleming is too heavy and aggressive, Hendricks is a bit sharp, the goddess Price is divine but holding back her huge voice, Tebaldi is too theatrical but the voice is so open. If only she took it a bit slower. Where is Marion Anderson?

  • :-) Kathleen Battle sounds so American! She never did master her diction in other languages... But my oh my, her voice is near perfect!

  • Elly has the most natural way of using her instrument and the best diction.

  • I'm sure a competition is not the point of making the video....!! I would like to think that it is a celebration of these great sopranos as they add their own personal touch through their own voice bringing by way of their experiences!! Because of this Ave Maria means something different to each of them... I appreciate the video for displaying that!! They all were the best!....

  • Renee fleming! for sure! (Barbara Bonney should be uncluded idd!!! =O)

I really don't like the way Kathleen Battle sings, I'm sorry...

And i think the voices at the end at the background ruined it a bit =( Xx

  • Thanks, Handy comparison to pick my favorite, which is Kathleen Battle.

  • @jewelmarkess i totally agree. the words in german and the english translation are beautiful. I think the Hail Mary is a beautiful prayer/poem as well. The divine nature of the melody and the intention of Scott's poem matching with the Hail Mary is truly one of those magical music moments

  • @carlosthomasfernande Ellen was hiding in a cave at the time, and she was praying for her and her father's safety. So yes, it's still a prayer, but it has a story. Also, the German words are poetic and beautiful (as are the English words of Walter Scott's "Lady of the Lake"). Plus, I like everything sung in the original language as the composer intended.
