a-block is a group alternative marchers, where they march at games, but not at contests. they help set up and take down performances for contests. they're usually freshmen who need some more help with getting used to marching with an instrument.
I wouldn't say it looks "bad" per say....just a bit bland (poor color choice for starters). It needs a "back end". It looks less like a plane and more like a portable stage with an airplane nose attached to it...like something a bunch of band dads got together and built in their garage. My guess is maybe one of them knew how to build a deck, so they just did that and added a couple ramps and some "accessories" to it. It looks ok....it "works", but I think it could have been better.
Believe it or not it's really hard to see. I'm not even exactly sure where you're talking about though If I were to guess I'd say it's behind the plane. But either way, there's only 1 Marching Judge watching you from the stands at UIL (+1 on-field) and only 2 at BOA, the chances of seeing an individual mistake like that when it's not the central focus is slim. I'd change when they do & be consistent, the direction change isn't that big a deal in that part of the show.
i'm the guy in a block that looks like he's late to change directions at the beginning of the trombone feature. but that's a misconception, actually, THEY'RE wrong. it's supposed to be a twelve count move and they change directions in six. you can't tell me that's not wrong. an that's not the worst thing! when i ask them to fix it, THEY DON'T LISTEN!!!
Placid? I think I might know what you mean but please explain.
I like the fresh, concept-based design the band's doing this year, and the music is killer but visually it seems like it's missing something.
The Drum Major milked the final cutoff too much, and there's some phasing issues that need to be worked out in the upcoming weeks. The pit needs an electric bass.
The announcer also needs to announce the show selections so the audience isn't like, "Wtf is up with the wooden airplane?"
