California Lottery Seeks Serial Burglar of Lottery Tickets

SACRAMENTO Investigators from the California Lottery are asking for the publics help in identifying a serial burglar who has stolen thousands of dollars in Lottery tickets.

The male suspect is believed responsible for at least 14 burglaries in the past month of Lottery instant-win tickets, commonly called Scratchers tickets. The burglaries have occurred in Sacramento and the Bay Area at authorized Lottery retailers. The suspect is wanted for commercial burglary and possession of stolen property.

The suspect is a white male, about 58, who has closely cropped hair. He is stocky, roughly 180 pounds and often wears baseball sportswear. His age is estimated between 35 and 45. He has been seen driving a gold or tan 4-door Chevy Tahoe.

At convenience stores, the suspect distracts the store clerk and then grabs a Lottery ticket display and heads out the door.

If you have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect, Lottery investigators ask that you call them at 1-800-LOTTERY.

More than 95 cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to the community in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retail commissions. The California Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed nearly $21 billion to California schools out of total sales of more than $56 billion. Retailers benefit too, earning $3.6 billion in compensation since 1985.
