If Gold were still a true standard, the world would be a very different place. I'm not an economist, but I think the gold standard would not allow for the financial shenanigans that have been taking place since the gold standard was done away with. Migrating from an actual physical precious (limited) substance to an unlimited paper source (like Monopoly money), no longer kept in check not only inflation but the inflation of avarice, greed, & rape of the planet.
