Secondary Level (High School)

This was an all-day competition. Each contestant was assigned to a CNC milling machine with a blueprint, a metal blank, and the necessary hand tools and measuring tools to get the job done. CNC programming was done in standard CNC "G-code" language with a text editor.
Contestants qualify for a national SkillsUSA contest by winning the state gold medal in that contest earlier in the school year. The previous year when Tom was a junior, he won the Arkansas gold medal in Precision Machining, and then participated in the national Precision Machining contest in June 2008.
Dozens of companies and individuals have donated time, machines, materials, and software for this contest. In addition, dozens of individuals have taken personal time off work and provided and paid for their own transportation and conference expenses in order to be contest judges.
EVERY PERSON AND COMPANY WHO MADE THIS CONFERENCE AND COMPETITION POSSIBLE DESERVES OUR MANY, MANY THANKS!!!
