That link will explain all.

This isn't a compulsory video if you're watching my tutorial series, but it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you watch it, since otherwise you'll know pretty much nothing about block manipulation and you'll end up asking loads of simple questions which are surprisingly difficult to answer in words.
DOWNLOAD THE MAP FILE SHOWN IN THE VIDEO HERE!

These tutorials will work if you want to map for any Source-based game, including...
Half Life 2 + episodes
Portal 1 + 2
Counter Strike Source
Team Fortress 2
Alien Swarm (to some extent)

This is an extra-information video in a new series of videos which will hopefully make map-making easier if you're just getting started.

You will need Steam to actually have the menu that you see at the beginning of this video, and you need at least one Source-based game to be able to map for it.

Visit the link at the top of this description for the full layout of the new tutorials.

  • Your videos are very helpful. I really appreciate your time to help us newbies out!

I have a question regarding shapes and water. I'm trying to make a hamster-like glass tube map under water for TF2. I make the cylinder hollow and then put the spawn point in it. The only problem is, there is water inside the cylinder even though it is closed. How do I prevent this?

    Thanks in advance!

    Zachary

  • @ZacharyBrunoMusic Water will just be a block in Source. You could manually place the water in blocks around everything to make it look as if it's underwater... but Source isn't good at doing this stuff.

  • when ever i make an arch, it become like a flower...not like a circle or half circle. i tried to change the numbers of wall width or size or arc it stays the same thing but for adding more sides it become worse. please any help?

  • @3kliksphilip Use carve on the cylinder when it's inside the water but not yet hollowed?

  • I absolutely adore your videos! you've really helped me get into the hammer editor, now it's somewhat an addiction, thank you! <3

  • can I edit a map I have downloaded from my game?

  • Your tutorials are awesome man. They've helped me out a lot so far!

I have a strange problem with one of my maps though. For some reason, random walls keep appearing on some spots of the map after compiling. They aren't solid and they don't show up in Hammer. They're usually on places with arches - problem is, I have A LOT of those in my map.

Any ideas on how to fix that? (in case you don't get what I mean, I'll try to make a video to show you what exactly the problem is)

  • Thanks for you videos man, every time I get stuck in Hammer I go to your tutorials :)

  • Question: When I make an arch - how do I get the gap? At the moment all I'm getting is semi-circles, please help! D:>
