I replaced the 5hp Briggs and Stratton motor on my 1993 MTD log splitter. I had to drill new holes and mount the motor closer to the wheel and I had to space out the pump mount since the shaft on the new motor is longer than the shaft of the old motor by 11/16"
It required some 5" 5/16-24 bolts that I bought at McMaster.com and I also had to get a new coupler spider D size .75 shaft. The old one was Urethane but I bought the Hytrel one. Either works. I also ended up buying the spacers and some washer but just about anything would work.
The final touch was to bend up the bar that protects the engine. I stuck a 5 foot pipe clamp pipe on there and bent it up easily.
The motor was $109 on Sale at Harbor Freight. I ran it 5 hours today and it barely labors.
I used Mobil 1, 10w-30 synthetic motor oil in the engine. I will change it out at 20 hours.
Drilling and mounting took a couple hours mostly because I didn't have someone else to hold a wrench and I was working on the ground. It was a fairly easy adaptation, I highly suggest it if your motor is a piece of garbage like mine was.
@3400willy ereplacementparts com sells those hydraulic elbows. I'm unfamiliar with 3/4-28.

I ma building a splitter with that engine and probably the same pump. Do you know the exact specs. for the inlet fitting for this pump?
I measure 3/4" 28 TPI and it weird because I cannot find any fitting for that thread.
