I feel if Hleb was behind the strikers in Cesc's role, we would see a different side. The fact is we have sorely missed our goals from other areas of the pitch. Pires and Freddy used to rack them up like no other wingers. We were so patient with Ade and RVP, and they have come good. But during that time we needed others to step up, Arshavin + Nasri + Rosicky = Arsenal's typical beautiful play, assists AND... GOALS GALORE!
I understand what you're saying, the man had plenty of indirect assists, and Arsenal's play suited him down to the ground. He rarely lost the ball, and almost always did something productive when in posession. But thinking of Hleb, I'm almost always reminded of the many one-on-one opportunities he had, and instead of putting the ball in the back of the net, would look up with a wide-eyed childs look on his face, searching for Thierry Henry.
I know this reply is old but i still thought id reply. Hleb isnt the type of player who scores or makes assist. Hes a great link up player. He takes on 2-3 players creating space. He can also old the ball up and wait for the fullback to put in the cross. I think you cant look at a player based on his stats. You have to look at the way they played, and Hleb (before arshavin came) was what you were missing this season. And a experienced holding player.
of all the great clips of hleb, the magestic footwork, the grace and skill, why show this one? or are you trying to make a point about his lack of goals. in that case, fair play. we swapped a garunteed 8 goal a season winger (freddie) for this ungreatful flop that will be leaving us shortly. he's leaving on the back of a season that saw him get only 6 goals and 2 assists... hleb mate, we're not angry, just dissapointed.
