- In addition to possessing all five senses that humans have--and a distant sense of touch common to most fish--sharks have developed a unique sensory system called the ampullae of Lorenzini, which enables them to detect minute electrical charges generated by all living things. It also attracts great white sharks to metal diving cages, leading many filmmakers to portray them as more ferocious than the Cousteau teams found them to be.
