Yoram Bauman PhD, "the world's first and only stand-up economist", at the 2010 AEA humor session. More at www.standupeconomist.com. This clip contains jokes about the financial crisis, an economics recipe for scrambled eggs, "What to expect when you're expecting the Nobel Prize", and some of the Nobel prize jokes from my Cartoon Introduction to Economics (co-authored and illustrated by Grady Klein).

  • Can anyone please explain the "convex hull" joke? I understand it is a mathematical concept, but have not idea where it stands in economics.

  • Yes, finally, another video!

  • @pigberto Convexity is a property that describes a function... it's actually more a mathematical joke than an economic joke because it's more of a mathematical concept economist (and students of economy such as myself) use to find a way to mathematically describe the behaviour of consumers and producers.... hope it helps you

  • @pigberto ussually in economics we use different production and indifference curves which are supposed to be convex.

What we implied supposing convexity is that the more you use one factor of production (or consume one good) the less marginal production (utility) you can get out of it.

The thing is if you make a graph of it, you can see it sort of has the shape of a hull.

Hope it asnwers you something, I'm sorry for any mistake, English is not my native lenguage :)

  • @eacans I feel genuinely sorry for you.

  • @CommunityGameplays so you made a point about your mommy sucking dick?

  • @eacans Congrats, you proved my point.

  • @CommunityGameplays well my life is ok but your mommy does most of the sucking for me...

  • @eacans Wow, your life must suck!

  • @pigberto a choice set in economics is usually convex ....

  • @pigberto i dont know what you mean by mathematics? Can you elaborate?
