@43alley @WayOfTheMaster454 - the word "hate" isn't literal, Christ is saying "if you're not willing to give up your mother and father..." If you choose to repent, as the Bible says, then it will take a major change in the way you live your life, and the willingness to give up those closest to you, while unnecessary, shows the level of dedication you hold. God wouldn't ask that you give them up, just to be dedicated...

Free Thinkers: Your arguments against Christianity and other traditional religions are in deed valid.Far be it from me to try and sway you from your strong Atheistic beliefs. My own scriptures advise me to not waste my efforts on those whose are adamant in opposing beliefs; however, I feel compelled to submit to you, for your consideration, an alternative avenue of thought that few (if any) of you have investigated, namely "The True Gnostic Church" and the "Song of God" by Azrael Ondi-Ahman.

"God is a man of War"

The existence of God is not a worthy argument. I was raised Christian. I became an Atheist when I actually read the Bible. I didn't have to spend all my energy defending it and justifying it's cruelty. I was able to read it without forcing myself to agree. There is no way of justifying, metaphorically or contextually smashing a baby against a rock(psalms 137). Arguing is a pure waste of time. I wouldn't debate those who believe the Moon is made of cheese. I am relieved to be free to think.

You'll be missed, Hitch. Your eloquence, your dedication to truth and your unwavering want of justice for humankind will NEVER be forgotten. You touched many lives, helped many unbelievers, who were fearful of reprisal, intellectual or otherwise, find their voice. To say 'thank you' would be arbitrary, to say 'you were amazing' empty. It seems only sufficient to say that you were a hero to many and heroes tend towards immortality in the minds of those whom they touched.

@cwross1976 actually abortion is almost always the removal of an egg so small that it would fit quite nicely on the top of a pin. to liken it to murder is to call masturbation genocide. oh and evolution has no agenda. and an atheist may or may not care. and also morality is a shared view on what is right and what is wrong, yes its true we don't all agree on some parts of morality but we label people who for example think its ok to murder as psychotic and remove them from society, when possible

"Then I heard the LORD say to the other men,… “ Kill them all – old and young, girls and women and little children
” Ezekiel 9:5-7
“Do not spare him, but kill men and women, children and infants, oxen and sheep, camels and asses” 1 Samuel 15:2-3 “Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.” Psalms 137:9.
How could anything be more immoral?

Me?
What about a guy who promotes or at least advocates the NEED for a 'modern' or an oddly 'evolving' christianity, at the same time as quoting a rather dark graphic novelist?
You need to have a word with your confused self.

@dave4shmups "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." - Leviticus 20:13
Case closed.

Christianity does NOT teach us to despise our own sexuality, only that there must be boundaries around it-and we have seen what happens when those boundaries fall. Our health is put at jeopardy, to say the least, and our dignity is diminished when we trivialize sex.
@WayOfTheMaster454 - "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:26
Nice.

@cwross1976 - Don't think too deep about these things, do you?
